Chimay Premiere Malt 7%
Also known as Chimay Rouge (red cap). Brewed at the Abbaye de Scourmont,
Premiere is a copper-colored Trappist ale with rich malt tones in
the nose; initially malty to the palate, a hint of sweetness in
the middle gives way to a tart finish and lingering hoppy, spicy
aftertaste.
Chimay Bleu (Blue Cap) 9%
A
dark amber Trappist ale with a rosy, woody nose. Quite sweet, especially
when young; starts malty, robust in the middle with a tart, spicy
finish and long complex aftertaste.
Chimay Blanche (White Cap) 8%
Also
known asTripel (330ml) and Cinq Cents (750 ml, bottle-conditioned);an
unfiltered Trappist ale,Chimay Blanche is orange-amber in colour
with a malty citrus nose; starts slightly sweet developing a substantial
middle and a dry finish.
Duvel 8.5%
A
Belgian Golden Ale; considered by some to have the characteristics
of a Trippel. "Duvel" - Flemish for "devil",
lives up to its name - its strength is belied by its pale appearance,
(due to the base-malt being steamed not kilned) and clean taste.
A malty start makes way for discrete fruity esters and a pithy tang.
Finishes slightly grainy with some residual spiciness and dextrous
notes.
Orval 6.2%
The
only beer brewed by the Trappist Cistercian monks at the Abbaye
Orval.Tracing its origins back to 1070, Orval is hazy orange-amber
in colour. Hints of juniper, lemon and flowers in the bouquet.
Rochefort 8 9.2%
From
the Brasserie de l'Abbaye de Notre-Dame de St Rémy. Actually
9.2% abv (not 8%). A dark brew with a silky mouth feel, Rochefort
8 combines grain, subtle phenols and esters for a fruity finish.
La Trappe Dubbel 6.5%
From
the Tilburg region of South Holland. A Trappist dubbel produced
by the Koningshoeven monastic order. Dark, dry and hoppy,starts
sweet with slight fruity overtones and a pronounced bitterness.
A rapid "improver" in the bottle.
Westmalle Triple Trappiste 9%
A complex, dry and spicy Trappist Ale with apricot and honey notes
culminating in a bitter aftertaste.The product of a secondary fermentation
lasting 5 weeks.
Bush Ambree 12%
From the Brasserie Dubuisson;a barley wine also known as Scaldis
and Bush de Noël in deference to its origins as a Christmas
beer. Lays claim to the title of strongest Belgian beer (alcohol
by volume). Dark gold in colour with a substantial head. Warm and
satisfying.
Maredsous 8%
From the
Brouwerij Moortgat.Creamy reddish-brown, medium-bodied Dubbel.Crisp
mouth feel with an understated spiciness and well-balanced flavour
of malt,hops and fruity undertones;dry,slightly smoky finish. Arguably
more complex than the "10".
Maredsous 10%
Also From the Moortgat stable. A moderately spicy
medium-bodied Trippel. with a characteristically fresh bouquet and
sweet after-taste; fruity, yet dry with a champagne-like nose.
